Abbie's Story

Abbie came to AAE with her friend, Ginny, in May 2025. One of their humans was experiencing a health crisis, and keeping up with their care was a strain. These girls had a history of laminitis and needed special care. When we arrived to pick them up, we were enamored by their cuteness. With a little help, they figured out how to get into the "mini-van", and off we went back to AAE.

Shortly after arrival, Abbie and Ginny had their spa days to update their basic care needs including hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming, and they got microchips.

After spending time in quarantine, the girls were introduced to "the farm", where the "littles" live. Slowly but surely, they were integrated into the little herd, and they've done very well with all the critters and all the activity around AAE. Abbie is 100% personality, and she loves her human friends. No doubt, everyone loves her!

If all goes well, Abbie and Ginny will be staying with AAE as Residents. They are perfect little ambassadors to help new volunteers learn, and if all goes well, they might get out into the community.

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, cats, goats, a pig, cows, and mini horses, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay.  Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.
