Story: Carmelita arrived from a Nevada feedlot on May 12, 2011, emaciated and malnourished. Her hooves and teeth showed extended neglect. The angles of her hoof walls weren’t properly supporting her weight, and she was standing on her soles, as they extended beyond her hoof walls. Her teeth were in such poor condition, large clumps of partially chewed hay fell from her mouth, and she chewed with her front teeth.
Trainer Notes: Carmelita is a sweet, mild mannered mare with a kind soul. We have had beginner youth riders on her in the round pen, and kids have been led around the barn. She hasn’t had extensive riding here, but so far she’s been a wonderful little lead-line and walk-trot mare for the smaller/lighter riders.
Health: Restored to good health! However, Carmelita is missing several teeth and will require a senior pellet diet. NO hay. She has an old injury on her rear leg which seems a bit sensitive when cleaning/trimming hoof on that leg; otherwise, she is great mare.
Issues: Needs experienced and patient handler for cleaning/trimming hind hooves. Adoption Fee:$350. On regular vaccine, deworming, dental and hoof care program. For more pics, click here.
