Story:  Chico’s back!  He is a cute 20+, 14H, pinto gelding that arrived at AAE February 7, 2010. He was adopted to a young girl, but unfortunate personal and financial circumstances brought him back to AAE.According to his former owner (pre-AAE), he was a sound horse, and he never had any health problems that the owner knew of, and she had him since he was 7. He is a beginner to intermediate ride. Former owner indicated was in a pony club for years, had tons of trail hours, and he is good in the ring. He is good on the trail, but needs a confident rider because he has a bit of a mind of his own. He also has good ground manners, but he can be pushy if not reminded of boundaries.

Trainer Notes:Chico is a sweet ol’ guy, but he is pushy over food.  If not reminded to wait until his food is ready, he’ll help himself.  He’s a nice beginner horse under controlled conditions, but needs a confident rider if out on trail.

Health:  AAE’s equine dental technician provided much needed dental care for Chico on February 11, 2010, and his teeth were in very poor condition.  Seven teeth were removed.  It also appears Chico has developed Cushing’s disease.  As a result, he requires a special diet with NO hay, daily oral medication, and limited/no pasture grass.

Issues:  Chico is a smart ol’ guy, been around the block a few times…and then some.  He’s got a ton of energy and needs a job, but also needs confident leadership.  He can be ridden by a beginner rider, but should be on lead line or in an arena until a partnership develops.  He’s pushy with his head and will be pushy with an unwitting handler.

Adoption Fee:   $350, waived for right home.
