Story: Rusty was relinquished by his owner in August of 2010 when she was no longer able to provide for him and was facing deployment with the Reserves. Rusty was with his former owner for 12 of his 24 years prior to relinquishment. He was a race horse in his younger days and later used as a hunter/jumper, dressage and trail horse.
Trainer Notes: Don’t let his age fool you! Rusty still has many many miles left in him, and he is one of the sweetest horses you will meet! Rusty is sound, loves attention, and loves to be ridden. He has been used as a lesson mount for beginner and novice riders in both english and western disciplines. He is responsive to cues and is patient and forgiving under saddle. He is a great ‘teacher,’ and while he knows what to do, he waits for the rider to ask. Rusty has great gaits: forward walk, nice forward trot or jog, knows both leads and flying changes. In his prime, he jumped, but due to his age we are looking for a relaxing new home with plenty of TLC and easy riding. He has been on trail rides, but can get a little excited and likes to move out. He has great ground manners, is easy to catch, stands for farrier/vet/dentist, trailers, ties, bathes, etc. Rusty is able to live in pasture with other horses or in a stall. He is well suited for beginner or novice riders in an arena, is great with children, and would be an amazing 4-H mount for a youngster. Health: Good, although, in consideration of his age, he participates with AAE only in light riding and exercise, as well as the youth parties. Issues: None known Adoption Fee: $TBD. Rusty has a lifelong home at AAE, but AAE will consider his adoption to the right youth home where he can become the best friend, teacher, and mentor to a young child that will respect his advancing age, but love him ’til the end. He is an absolutely LOVELY guy! For more pictures of Rusty, click here.
