At then end of June 2015, AAE went to check on a little mare out in the middle of nowhere. While there and in consideration of taking in the little mare, we noticed a miniature horse, and the owner mentioned she needed a new home. Upon seeing little Bella, it was certain she needed something more: help.
Someone was looking out for her that day because even though AAE was there to see the other horse, we had the mini transporter on the truck. Bella came back to AAE that day. Clumps of dead hair peeled from her thin body, and her misshapen hooves were trimmed.
Shortly thereafter, she was seen by our wonderful vet and talented farrier and was diagnosed with contracted tendons in all four legs! Sadly, this could have been treated more easily when she was a foal.
Weeks later she is more comfortable, but still in some pain when she walks. Her tendons have contracted for a long period of time, and they are having a difficult time relaxing so she can walk normally. They may never fully extend without help. Think about walking on your toes like a ballerina for months with no break and then trying to walk flat-footed.
This is where you come in... AAE would like to provide Bella with "check ligament" surgery to help her tendons relax and allow her to walk more comfortably. The surgery will be $2500 for fronts, potentially hinds, radiographs, and special shoes. (Any excess funds will go to the general fund for feed/vet expenses.) She is young at 3 years old and has many more wonderful years ahead of her. AAE would like to help her begin her new life as comfortable as possible and can do that with your help.
Please donate to Bella's fund and help her walk pain free.
