| Story: Abilene was a cast off from a major Arabian & Saddlebred breeder in the Bay Area. She and her sister, Laramie, were off to the auction. She was born with a left front club foot, but luckily has grown out of it. She actually has fairly nice feet now. She has never worn shoes.Abilene is a very smart and unbelievably observant horse. She has a very busy mind that needs to be used. She has a wild and crazy side, and then there is this wonderfully sweet and soft side to her. Abilene is very much a people horse. She always talks to her ownerand runs when she sees her truck. She has a lot of athletic energy, and it needs to be channeled into some really good training. She has some fantastic possibilities, given the right, compassionate, understanding person to guide her. She thrives on attention which is the one component to excellent care that her owner has not been able to give her enough of. Abilene’s riding has been limited, but her owner has been on her a few times when living in the Bay Area. She has not been able to ride her since she moved here in 2005 (ouch!). She really needs to develop her confidence. She is frightened of the horse trailer because of the breeder drugging her and being extremely aggressive to her for her maiden trip to my home. She has traveled to UCD and Placerville (from the Bay Area), but they were nervous trips. Just a lack of experience. She stands nicely for the farrier and tolerates vaccines ok. It used to be a battle, but she has improved tremendously. She bathes fine and clips gently. She’s not crazy about things around her mouth, so using paste wormers and putting bits in her mouth can be a challenge, but doable. She also lunges fine. Abilene deserves a third chance at a better life. She’s a great girl and her owner really wants only better things for her and her sister. Her owner wants her to be able to enjoy a loving, forever home with her sister, Laramie, and have the ability to grow and be the horse she knows she can be.Adoption Fee: Negotiable.
