Story:  Bella and her colt, Ray, arrived from a Nevada feedlot on August 26, 2009. Bella was very emaciated and had nasty eye infections. Her left hoof was scarred from an apparent wire injury, and she had some swelling in her right knee.  Bella was also pregnant upon arrival; she surprised us with a beautiful little filly June 23, 2010.

Trainer Notes:  Bella will meet you at the gate and is easy to halter. She willingly follows her handler on lead.  She does not like to have her back hooves trimmed (pregnancy related??), and will need more desensitizing training in this area, but she is very sweet and enjoys attention and grooming.  She is a big mare and has had a basic health eval and dental treatment.  She has an old hoof injury and knee swelling.  Xrays of right knee show an apparent old chip/fracture that has healed/calcified with some arthritic changes.  However, she has been cleared by one of AAE’s veterinarians for light riding and normal exercise.  She willingly accepts saddling, bridling, and appears to neck rein.  We have not yet evaluated her tolerance levels or riding abilities; however, it appears she may have been ridden at some time in her life.  Bella would also make a nice companion animal.

Health:  Bella has a scarred left front hoof, and old right knee injury, otherwise, she appears to be in good health.

Issues: Bella is dominant over food in the pasture, and needs work with trimming her hooves, especially the rear hooves. None others known.
