Residents

Sierra

Picture
Sierra is a wonderful example of compassion and fortitude. When she arrived from the feedlot in 2009, she had two young foals at her side, both nursing. One was her own; the other she "adopted" when its mother was sent to slaughter. All were sickly and malnourished, but with special care by our volunteers, they all survived and eventually flourished. The two colts were adopted quickly into forever homes, but Sierra is now a permanent resident at the rescue, as she has become the grand matriarch of the AAE herd. The younger horses naturally gravitate towards her for comfort and leadership, and she wisely teaches them their manners and proper horsey behavior.  Visit her Facebook album.

Kinjii

Picture
Kinjii came to AAE as a result of financial distress situation.  She was a former barrel racing horse that was rescued from slaughter by her former owner.  She was abused and has taken considerable time to trust in humans again, and she finds confidence in one of her pasturemates.  Visit her Facebook album.

Sapphire

Picture
Sapphire is a sweet, older (1986-ish) pony-sized lady, who loves kids and attention. She was incredibly skinny and malnourished when she arrived, but she has blossomed at the rescue. Sapphire is now one of our star ambassadors at events and parties.  She loves attention, she loves grooming, she loves people.  Visit her Facebook album.  Visit her Facebook album.

Sparky

Picture
Sparky is a 2009 pony who came to AAE at just a month old. He is playful and mischievous, not to mention a staff favorite. He has been started under saddle and is being groomed for participation in pony parties and off-site events. Everyone quickly falls in love with this handsome boy.  Visit his Facebook album.

Pumpkin

Picture
Pumpkin is an adorable lil' mini (or rather big mini) that came to AAE from the feedlot in October 2009 when we went to pick up a load of horses.  She wasn't 'on' the feedlot, per se, but had been bought by someone that worked there.  There was plenty of room for her in the tack box, so we couldn't leave her behind.  This little gal can move.  She was scared of people, and was not interested in getting to know anyone.  Thanks to ongoing attention by our volunteers, she's coming around very nicely.  Visit her Facebook album.

Petie

Picture
Petie, a cute pinto miniature pony, came to AAE when his elderly owner could no longer keep him. He was gelded shortly after intake. He is quite the looker with one blue eye and one brown. Petie has a spirited personality and is very full of himself.  At this time, he is not suitable as a companion to older minis/horses, mares, or families with small children.  He will be best suited in a home with plenty of activity planned for him, as well as other minis of same/similar temperament, activity level, etc.  Until then, Petie is working well in our volunteer program, and he is learning about children with adult supervision/handling.  More photos here or visit his Facebook album.

Scarlett

Picture
Scarlett is an adorable mini that came to AAE (with Petie) when his elderly owner could no longer keep her. She's been a ton of fun in our Pony Pals program, and the kids love her.  Although sweet, she is Queen of the mini herd!  Visit her Facebook album.

Patches

Picture
Patches is a pretty miniature pony who had been used as a companion animal for many years before coming to AAE in 2012 after her pasture-mate passed away. She is in her twenties but still full of life and is enjoying her new job entertaining kids at open barn and pony party events.  Visit her Facebook album.
