Caylee's Story

Caylee came to AAE after law enforcement picked her up running the streets, and she ended up in the shelter. Sadly, her owners didn't come for her, and she needed a place to go, so she came to AAE! The shelter said she came from a breeder, and she'd had a foal not long before.

We picked her up at the shelter, and she was a bit challenging to halter. Once in a halter, she was responsive, and she loaded well. When she got to AAE, she was soft and kind. It was probably because she was in a new environment. Once in her own paddock, she became evasive again, and made it clear she wasn't interested in humans. 

In time, she became more halterable and more easily handleable. She saw the farrier for a much needed hoof trim, and later the vet for her dental, vaccines, and microchip. She was dewormed, too. Caylee's confidence grew, and she improved with each session.  She's a pretty little thing that didn't take long to find her admirer. Caylee found her person!

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, cats, goats, a pig, cows, and mini horses, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay.  Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.​​
