Graycie's Story

Graycie arrived with Belles through law enforcement as the result of a neglect case in mid-January 2026. They were both thin, and Graycie had a gut full of sand. Graycie was hesitant to allow us to put a lead on her halter (that was already on), but loaded willingly and transported quietly.

Graycie is an aged mare, likely late 20s. She's very sensitive, and a bit defensive around her face. For now, her halter is staying on. It takes time for her to trust anyone attaching lead. Once done, she's fairly easy-going, but still hesitant to have hands coming anywhere near her face.

After quarantine, she had much needed dental and hoof care, along with vaccines and deworming as well as a microchip. She is getting some TLC and putting on some pounds, looking better by the day. She is good with hoof-handling and the farrier. She's is improving, slowly and we're giving this sweet ol' gal all the time she needs.

She will be available for adoption, soon, likely to an experienced non-riding companion home.

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, cats, goats, pigs, cows, and mini horses, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay.  Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.
