Jinks' Story

Jinks was a 20-ish stallion when he came to AAE following a law enforcement seizure. He was reported to animal control several times over the past few years after repeatedly wandering the streets and harassing neighboring horses. However, he was uncatchable, and he always made his way home. Eventually, he was captured, taken into custody, and seized, then transferred to AAE. He was underweight, and his teeth and hooves were in need of care.

Jinks has a friendly disposition, and he was touchable, but he didn't appear to have much training. He wasn't a fan of haltering. With a little consistency and kindness, he was soon halterable and handleable, Soon after, Jinks was castrated, and he had much needed hoof and dental care, vaccinations, deworming. He also got a microchip. Fortunately, we didn't identify any other underlying issues. Though law enforcement aged him at 12-16 years old, his teeth suggested he's 20-ish (2005).

Jinks is much improved now. He's a really sweet guy, he's easy-going, and he's willing to learn. Once halterable, Jinks was quick to enjoy grooming and most human interaction, though at times, he takes a moment to think about haltering. He's doing well with hoof handling, and he's done well with the farrier. Though older, he doesn't appear to have any issues that would prevent pursuing saddlework, and maybe he has riding back in his early years. He could be a non-riding companion, or possibly a light riding prospect. He'll continue learning as he waits for his new family.

Jinks is fairly uncomplicated and will make someone a very nice companion, though he might be best suited for a home with another gelding considering his long life as a stallion.

Jinks is current with dental and hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and he has a microchip.

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE, including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, and weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, cats, goats, cows, a mini donkey, a mini mule, and mini horses, as well as various wildlife, including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyotes, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay. A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high-speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens. Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a quieter environment.
