Rosalie's Story

Rosalie came to AAE with her pal, Eddie, at the end of 2025 after a family health and financial crisis. She was very thin and lacking basic care. When we met, she was easy to halter, and she loaded onto the trailer ahead of Eddie without issue. She traveled well, unloaded like she'd done it a million times, and she settled quickly. We were told she had been a family riding horse. Rosalie had very bad (watery) diarrhea when we picked her up, and her hind end was caked with dry manure.

Shortly after arrival, she had a quick check by Dr. Stolba for bloodwork and eval for dental, but she felt she was too thin. Her bloodwork had some abnormal results, but not out of the ordinary for her body condition. We'll give her some time to gain some weight and build some strength before attempting dental care, though it's needed. Her hind end seems uncomfortable, too. Hopefully, hoof care will relieve some, and some meds for arthritis.

Rosalie is a very sweet, mild-mannered mare with a kind personality. So far, she's easy to handle, very soft and willing, she gives her hooves easily (other than apparent soreness), and seems to enjoy humans. Stay tuned while we get to know this sweet girl.

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, cats, goats, cows, and mini horses, mini donkeys, and a mini mule, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high-speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay.  Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.​
