Skeeter's Story

Skeeter came to AAE from a local law enforcement agency on New Year's Day 2026. Skeeter was a stray, and he was not claimed at the shelter, so he came to AAE. When we met Skeeter, he was a bit on the nervous side, but cute and friendly. He loaded well into the trailer, traveled quietly, and unloaded like he'd done it before. Skeeter was in relatively good body condition when he arrived.

After quarantine, he had dental and hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and he got a microchip. Skeeter was a fairly mild-mannered guy with a super cute personality. He was not difficult to handle, but he was not very confident and startled at the slightest of noises, movements, etc. 

Since arrival, Skeeter has made steady progress. He is becoming more and more confident with humans, and he's beginning to enjoy the interactions. His personality is blossoming. He was comfortable with saddle and bridle introductions, and he's been ridden in the round pen a times. So far, he seems unphased with a rider, couple of times. He needs some work on his stop and backing. Wth some fine-tuning and a bit more confidence, this guy will make someone a nice lil' partner.

Skeeter is available for adoption to an experienced person. He's not suitable for a beginner at this time.

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, cats, goats, cows, and mini horses, mini donkeys, and a mini mule, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay.  Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.​
