Stormy's Story
Stormy, a young Quarter Horse stud colt, came to AAE in March 2024 with a little help from some friends. Stormy's owner had passed away, and his family was unable to continue care. Initially, AAE was not able to take Stormy, but when a sponsor stepped in to help with his costs of care, we picked him up. Stormy was touchable, but family didn't know how to halter or handle. Stormy was friendly, but unsure about haltering and leading, let alone loading into a trailer, but he learned quickly, and loaded without too much difficulty. To the best of everyone's knowledge, Stormy hadn't had any basic care.
Once at AAE, he finished learning to lead, learned about hoof handling, and it wasn't long before he was castrated and had hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming. He also got a microchip. Stormy is a really mild mannered, easy-going lil guy. He was a quick learner, and he's done very well with everything he's been introduced to, including other young geldings. He's playful, confident, curious, and willing,
Stormy is current with hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming, and he has a microchip.
Stormy's sponsor loved this little guy so much, she decided to adopt him. Stormy went directly from AAE into training,
In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits. There are resident dogs, a cat, goats, cows, and mini mule, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas. A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens. Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay. Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Some do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.
