Ongoing:
Project Gatekeeper – The good news is we have plenty of space; the tough news is we need additional fencing to be more effective and more efficient. AAE has plans to expand our housing facilities by replacing some perimeter fencing and adding additional cross-fencing. These improvements will provide additional paddock areas for special needs horses and new arrivals.
Good fencing and proper housing is important for properly containing horses for several reasons. First, they are big animals, and they need room to roam. Second, they are natural herd animals that survive in the wild through collaboration and community. However, after experiencing abuse, neglect, and feedlot conditions, horses suffer on multiple levels—physically, emotionally, psychologically, and nutritionally. Sometimes this results in anti-social behaviors that can be harmful to themselves and other horses, but this CAN be healed with time and patience, as well as space where the horse feels safe and unthreatened. Additionally, mares and their babies have a special need for their own space, safely away from other horses, at least during their first few weeks or months together.
As with all things horse, fencing is expensive and timing is everything. AAE has the people-power to install the fencing, but we need to buy the materials, which will cost about $3,000. Please consider giving a tax-deductible donation to AAE this week, today if possible! Your support and interest are making a difference for horses and people. It is the mission of AAE to place the horses with caring ‘forever families’ or for them to work here at the Rescue as our partners in equine therapy programs for children and adults.

JANUARY 2010:
A portion of our health clinics were conducted by Dr’s. Karly Delano and Vicki Smalley of Amador Veterinary Services, Melissa Shurr, CEqDP, and Patrick McKinzey, Professional Farrier at All About Equine Animal Rescue, Inc. Dental and hoof care, as well as other minor care needs were completed on our adult horses on January 12th and 26th, 2010. Due to rainy and muddy conditions, we had to postpone castration of our ten colts.
DECEMBER 2009:
Thank you to all who donated to Project Gelding. We have raised the funds needed for gelding our 9 colts!! Project Gelding – There are nine colts currently at the rescue. They range in age from approximately 6 months to 8 months old. A huge part of the horse welfare issue is overpopulation, which can only be prevented through the sterilization of male horses. An intact colt or stallion usually means they are more difficult to handle and more difficult to house, making them nearly impossible to adopt or have quality of life. AAE received a generous offer from a local veterinarian to the reduce the cost of gelding, and we urgently needed to raise funds to have a one day clinic during the first part of January to geld the colts before they become more sexually mature.
Thank you to all who donated and helped to make our outreach/fundraising event a success!! December 20-21, 2009, 10a to 7p, Fundraising and Outreach event at Safeway-El Dorado Hills, CA. Help us raise funds for our health clinic in January 2010.
