Curly's Story
Curly came to AAE in November 2020 from a distressed mustang sanctuary situation due to a family health crisis. After 20 years of serving mustangs, the sanctuary was unable to adequately meet the needs of the horses. Curly is a curious, sweet, friendly mustang. She was a bit upright on her hooves that hadn't been trimmed for quite a while. Curly was at a relatively good weight and really enjoyed human interaction. She haltered, led, and loaded without issue. We were told she'd been ridden in the past.
Curly is a mild-mannered mare. She's reasonably confident and willing, but doesn't seem to have had much education. Given the opportunity to understand, she's willing and learns quick, if not overwhelmed with pressure. She has been good with hoof handling. She's had hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming, and she has a microchip. So far, she's been a nice, uncomplicated little mare.
Curly has been with a trainer to further her education. Her groundwork was improved, and she was introduced to a saddle. Curly's first few rides have been exceptional. She's very soft, and moving confidently with a natural stop. She's This girl is ready for someone to continue her growth as a very willing partner.
In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, weekly farrier visits. There are resident dogs, cats, chickens, and mini horses, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys and squirrels in and around paddock/pasture areas. AAE is situated on the corner of a busy road with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens. Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay. Neighbors have weekly gardeners that utilize various power tools, and children that are active in yards adjacent to some stall/paddock areas. Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment.
