Elvie's Story

Elvie came to AAE in mid-March 2024 after AAE was contacted by a nearby law enforcement agency for foster and medical assistance for three horses from a stray/abandonment situation.  These poor girls!  They weren't in the best condition. Thankfully, Elvie was so sweet, easily halterable, and she loaded without issue when we picked them up. How anyone could abandon this sweet mare is beyond me.  Elvie's toes were so long, and her heels were underrun, she was so uncomfortable.

After arriving at AAE, r
adiographs of Elvie's hooves confirmed extra long toes and underrun heels causing a negative palmar angle. Thankfully, she didn't have any other significant issues.  This made it easier for her farrier visit, She had her spa day, too (hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming, and she got a microchip).

Elvie is a gem! She's so laid back and easy-going. She enjoys grooming and interaction, she's easy to halter/lead, and handle hooves, and she's good with the farrier. She comes in and is easy to catch in the pasture. We're exploring Elvie's under saddle, and have only a few short, easy rides. So far, she's a very easy-going ride. She's mild-mannered, very responsive, and very willing. We have high hopes for Elvie!

Elvie is current with hoof and dental care, vaccines, and deworming, and she has a microchip.

Elvie found her person, an AAE volunteer, and she's been adopted with her friend, Elvie! We're so excited for everyone!

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including vehicle and foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, tractor and trailering, weekly farrier visits.  There are resident dogs, a cat, goats, cows, and mini mule, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, deer, coyote, and bobcats in and around paddock/pasture areas.  A portion of AAE is situated along a highway with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay.  Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment. Somed do well; others will do better in a more quiet environment.
