Kitty's Story
AAE welcomed Kitty, a pretty young filly, from the DreamCatcher Wild Horse and Burro Sanctuary on Feb 28, 2018. AAE is working with DC in a continued effort to support DreamCatcher's recovery and herd reduction efforts which is focused on rehoming young/captive born mustangs after the long illness and passing of their Executive Director, Barbara Clarke in November of 2016. There are many more in need of homes.
Kitty spent some time at the Monty Roberts International Learning Center for gentling and basic handling. She is halterable but needs considerable time building trust and confidence. Handling hooves is still a work in progress. The right home will be with a person with mustang experience; a patient person willing to commit time and consistent efforts to bring this sweet girl along.
Her handling/confidence building will continue during her stay at AAE. Kitty is current on dental and hoof care, vaccines and deworming, and she has a microchip in place.
Update: Kitty is continuing her training and is progressing quickly! She has been ground driven a handful of times and is getting used to being saddled. Kitty ties, and has been well behaved for the farrier to trim her feet. She is easy to catch in a paddock with a slow approach. She will be a fun project pony for someone that has experience. She has a fancy trot and would look great pulling a cart or under saddle!
