Maddie's Story
Maddie came to AAE with her mama, Tae, from the DreamCatcher Wild Horse and Burro Sanctuary in April 2018. Maddie was only days old, and mom was not letting her nurse. When Maddie would try to nurse, mom would bite her, but otherwise stayed by her side. Maddie was persistent and clever, and mom didn't resist when she nursed from behind, between mom's legs. We separated the two after a threatening bite, and reintroduced them a couple hours later. The issue resolved almost immediately. Her "behind" tactic continued, even after she won Mom's heart. AAE has been supporting DreamCatcher's herd reduction efforts since April of 2017 after the long illness and passing of their Executive Director, Barbara Clarke, in November of 2016.
Maddie is kind, curious and confident, and did we mention flashy and smart? She is halter trained, and has been introduced gently to ground driving a handful of times. Maddie is good with hoof handling and fairly good with the farrier. She's still learning patience. She loads readily into the trailer. This lil' gal will make for an amazing partner and a super horse for someone with experience with young horses. She will make a great working horse, and she will excel with any kind of job.
Maddie is current with hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and she has a microchip in place. Maddie has an Adoption Pending.
