Violet's Story
Violet came to AAE in June 2021 after the unexpected passing of her owner. Violet was a beloved companion, and she was well cared for. Apparently, she was much overweight when her owner got her, and she had been in treatment with her vet for a chronic hoof abscess in her right hind where she had a substantial old, untreated injury (from original owner) with much scarring.
Once at AAE, her hoof treatment continued, and it healed nicely. Violet is generally a calm, quiet, nice little mini, but she can be a bit pushy. She haltered, led, and loaded easily when picked up to transport back to AAE. She has some reservation with handling the right hind, so she will need some work to help her be more comfortable and patient. Due to scarring in her pastern and fetlock area, she needs a high heel in that hoof.
Violet is available for adoption to a home with experience with minis. She could be a nice mini for a child (or children) with an experienced parent to lead the way. She's an easy keeper and prone to weight gain. A home with only green pasture is not the best option for her.
Violet's health history was current with vaccines, and hoof and dental care when she arrived. She was dewormed and got a microchip.
In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, weekly farrier visits. There are resident dogs, cats, chickens, and mini horses, as well as various wildlife including frequent turkeys and squirrels in and around paddock/pasture areas. AAE is situated on the corner of a busy road with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens. Tractors are used in and around pasture/paddock areas, trucks deliver feed, and a squeeze is occasionally used for unloading hay. Neighbors have weekly gardeners that utilize various power tools, and children that are active in yards adjacent to some stall/paddock areas. Horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment.
