El Dorado Hills, CA – Due to ongoing drought, increasing costs of hay, and declining hay supply, All About Equine Animal Rescue, Inc. had requested emergency funds to help secure feed for the 28 horses they have in their care. “All of AAE’s normal local direct (grower) sources for hay are out as a result of the drought, causing the rescue to look to our local feed stores for hay. We have been unable to find hay within our existing budget and are looking to secure at least 1000 bales of hay,” said Wendy Digiorno, Executive Director and Founder of the rescue. “Many families have sadly had to part with their horses in recent years as a result of the economic downturn,” observes Tarah French, Grant Team Coordinator. The funds will ensure that AAE has affordable access to quality hay to provide for ongoing rescue, rehabilitation, training and rehoming of horses in need. With the award of the ASPCA Emergency Feed Grant; All About Equine Animal Rescue was able to secure a bulk order of hay to ensure long term availability of feed. Successful use of the grant will be measured in savings from frequent retail purchases of smaller quantities of hay at higher prices. For more information, please visit www.allaboutequine.org. About All About Equine Animal Rescue, Inc. AAE was founded in 2009 by a couple of individuals who were heartbroken to see large numbers of horses being neglected, abandoned or sent to auction/slaughter due in part to the economic downturn experienced by much of the country and Northern California, in particular. Wanting to make a difference, they determined to do all they could with what resources they could muster. They worked to turn a small family-owned ranchette into a working horse facility, and in June 2009, the concept of the rescue became a reality when the first two slaughter-bound mare/foal pairs were brought in from a foreign-owned slaughterhouse feedlot in Nevada. Since that day, more than 95 horses have found their way through AAE’s barn doors and are living healthy, happy, productive lives through the heroic efforts of their volunteers and the financial contributions of their donors.
